5.3. Creating Value For Partners

Sponsorship is not just about visibility

Your app is inventory: a banner in the News Feed, a branded push notification, a listing placement, or naming rights on an event can all be sold to sponsors. Package these clearly (reach/impressions, placement, duration) so a sponsor, a local business, an equipment brand, a federation partner, can evaluate the offer the way they would any other media buy.

Sponsorship isn't just about visibility, it's about delivering real value to a partner. A few things make the difference between a one-off sale and a renewed one:

  • Know what sponsors actually want: visibility, access to your community, engagement, and results they can point to.
  • Sell precision, not reach: your app reaches a specific, targeted community, that's worth more to most sponsors than a generic channel.
  • Spread it across touchpoints: News Feed, Events, and a dedicated page all reinforce each other rather than one placement carrying everything.
  • Favor engagement over passive views: a sponsor's logo someone actually interacts with beats one they scroll past.
  • Integrate naturally: sponsorships land best when they fit what players are already interested in, not when they feel bolted on.
  • Report simple metrics: views, clicks, and participation build trust, and make the next renewal an easier conversation.
  • Aim for recurring partnerships: a sponsor who renews is worth more than a series of one-off sales.

⚠ Tip: Frame the offer around outcomes, not inventory, visibility builds awareness, engagement builds interest, interaction drives conversion. Offering visibility without context, ignoring what the sponsor actually wants, or giving no performance feedback are the most common ways a sponsorship doesn't get renewed.
